How to Keep Your Carpet Clean and Make It Last for Years

Looking after a carpet properly is what keeps it looking good — and structurally sound — for years rather than seasons.

Here are the practices we recommend to UltraClean customers:

  1. Vacuum regularly:

A carpet works like a filter, trapping dirt and dust. Vacuuming regularly stops those particles building up and grinding away at the fibres every time someone walks across the room.

Move the vacuum slowly and use overlapping passes — speed is what makes most vacuuming ineffective.

  1. Wash the carpet on a schedule:

A deep wash roughly every three months keeps a carpet in good condition.

With children or pets in the house, spills are frequent enough that washing more often pays for itself — it protects both the appearance and the life of the carpet.

  1. Vacuum Use the right cleaning products:

Match the product to the fibre. Look for a shampoo that leaves some stain resistance behind, and check explicitly that it is safe for wool before using it on a wool carpet — many general-purpose cleaners are not.

  1. Treat stains immediately:

With tea or coffee spills, the first few minutes decide the outcome — blot (never rub) and treat the spot straight away with a suitable carpet cleaner.

For a set-in mark, lay a damp cloth over the stain and warm it with an iron: the heat helps break the stain down so it lifts more easily.

Home care goes a long way, but it cannot replace a deep machine wash. Booking UltraClean once or twice a year is what keeps a carpet genuinely clean and adds years to its life.
